Skin Conditions/Dermatitis

Dermatitis is a common skin condition and often presents itself as a rash or inflamation of the skin.  Dermatitis is one of the most widespread causes of ill health at work, and in severe cases can make working impossible. My Accident Solicitor can help you with the personal injury claim advice you need, and to pursue any work injury compensation claim.

Dermatitis - Symptoms and Causes

Dermatitis can be a long or a short term skin condition and symptoms include red, inflamed, itchy and blistering skin. There are various types of Dermatitis, including eczema.  Dermatitis is also a skin condition that can spread over the whole body, but some types of dermatitis can be cured. For those that can't, however, there are treatments that can ease the discomfort and pain.

Common causes and aggressors of Dermatitis include:

  • Chemicals
  • Detergents and cleaning products
  • Oils
  • Rubber/ latex
  • Resins
  • Solvents

Professionals most at risk from skin conditions such as Dermatitis include:

  • Cleaners
  • Engineers
  • Hairdressers
  • Kitchen workers
  • Nurses
  • Printers
  • Painters

Your employer should minimize risks when it comes to Dermatitis

Your employer has a responsibility to ensure you are not at risk from harmful substances that could cause or aggravate skin conditions like dermatitis at work. This means, where possible, they should try and use alternative, safer products and reduce the contact you have with hazardous materials. At the very least you should be given suitable protective clothing to avoid skin exposure, such as gloves or overalls.
